參賽資格：

比賽向5至19歲的K至12年級學生開放。學生必須在學校注冊才有資格。所有參賽作品必須由家長、監護人、教育者或輔導員提交，除非學生年滿18歲或以上。

競賽規則：

所有作品必須是原創作品。

教師/輔導員應一起提交他們班級的所有小組參賽作品。

所有參賽者都將獲得電子版探險者證書。

所有參賽作品必須通過官網投稿提交。

獲獎者將于每年春季公布。

作品要求

參賽者最多可提交詩歌作品5件，藝術作品5件（總共最多10件）。如果提交的參賽作品超過5個，我們將只接受前5個參賽作品。如果提交多個文件或藝術品，則每次提交必須填寫一次此表格。

所有詩歌必須是原創作品。詩歌文檔/PDF不能包含姓名、年齡或任何其他個人信息。

詩歌長度不得超過32行（手寫）或3分鐘（簽名）。對于美國手語詩歌，請附上詩歌內容的簡短書面摘要。

接受合作詩歌和藝術作品，但只有一名學生（被選為團體代表）有資格獲得任何獎項。

只接受英語和西班牙語的詩歌。

郵寄的藝術作品在發送時需要包含打印的Jotform確認，并且仍然需要通過Jotform提交信息。無論采用何種媒介，藝術作品都必須郵寄才能參加2024年的比賽。如果藝術品是數字作品，請將其打印出來。藝術品將不會退還給藝術家。

所有藝術品必須是原創作品。可接受的介質包括油漆、鉛筆、記號筆、墨水、蠟筆、粉筆或蠟筆（固定）、攝影、布、拼貼畫和計算機藝術。

不接受修改。在提交到門戶之前，請確保您的工作已完成。

獎項設置

詩歌四個年齡/年級類別各選出一名獲獎者。藝術領域的四個年齡/年級類別各選出一名獲獎者。

參賽作品將按以下類別進行評審：

Category I: K-Grade 2 (Primary) or ages 5-7

Category II: Grades 3-5 (Elementary) or ages 8-11

Category III: Grades 6-8 (Intermediary) or ages 11-14

Category IV: Grades 9-12 (Secondary) or ages 14-19

特別獎

International Prize

Awarded to one international entry, either art or poetry, in any age category.

Shasta Bioregion Prize

Awarded to one entry, either art or poetry, honoring a Northern California watershed.

Monkey's Raincoat Prize

Awarded to a short poem in the tradition of the Japanese haiku. This award celebrates River of Words' founder Robert Haas, who has enjoyed a lifelong study and fascination of the form.

One Square Block Prize

Awarded to poems that examine city-scapes and the interaction between the manmade and the natural world. See 2018 River of Words finalists "Stoop Gardens in the City" by Ariella Brodie-Weisberg or "Down by the Batture" by Aiden Wiese for inspiration.

Note: The number of entries awarded Monkey's Raincoat, Shasta Bioregion, and One Square Block prizes are up to the discretion of the judges, but is typically awarded to one entry per year.

"On Writing" Poetry Finalists

This category of poems features narratives that reflect on the writing process and the speaker's connection to writing. See 2018 "On Writing" River of Words finalist "The Ant" by Grace Gorman or 2016-2017 "On Writing" River of Words finalist "Nature" by Lesley Mendoza-Gomez. Awarded to approximately 5 poems every year.

Art and Poetry Finalists

Approximately 50 finalists in art and 50 finalists in poetry are selected to be published alongside the Grand Prize winners. This amount can vary each year depending on the number and quality of submissions.

River of Words/Kalmanovitz School of Education Teacher of the Year

Awarded to one outstanding educator who utilizes River of Words practices in the classroom and actively empowers their students to engage with their watershed. For information about the Teacher of the Year nomination process, which runs year-round, click here.
